In this three-part series, we asked Fujiyama Yuichiro, CTO of ENEOS Holdings, what kind of technological development and strategies the Group is pursuing to achieve this goal. In the previous article (Part 1), we asked about the three main parts of the ENEOS Group's technological development: renewable energy, biomass, and CCS. Coexistence of Refineries and Nature: Biodiversity Conservation Initiatives at the ENEOS Group

Energy supports our lives.

Refineries, which supply energy, cannot usually be entered by outsiders. However, do you know that there are actually rich natural environments growing within these industrial facilities? More than 150 species of wildlife have been found at the Negishi Refinery in Yokohama City, and rare plants bloom. At the Sendai Refinery, reconstructed after the Great East Japan Earthquake, Japanese raccoon dogs and foxes can be seen roaming through the green areas. Such scenes are the results of biodiversity conservation initiatives being undertaken by the ENEOS Group at refineries across Japan. We take a look at the environmental conservation initiatives being implemented within refineries that can’t usually be seen in our daily life as well as their significance to local ecosystems and our lives.

ENEOS is pleased to announce that we have exhibited at CES® 2025, the technology trade show held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, from 7 to 10 January, 2025.

The ENEOS Group is conducting various initiatives to achieve its Long-Term Vision of taking on the challenge of contributing to both a stable supply of energy and materials and the realization of a carbon-neutral society. The ENEOS Group has contributed to the development of communities through creation and innovation in energy, resources, and materials, and will continue to help to ensure a vibrant future.
Based on the Group slogan “Supporting ‘today’s normal,’ taking the lead for ‘tomorrow’s normal,’” which succinctly expresses its strong determination, ENEOS introduced some of its proprietary technologies at CES 2025.

Green Chemicals: Taking on the Challenge of Creating Sustainable Plastic Raw Materials ~ About biochemicals and chemical recycling ~

The ENEOS Group, as a leader in the energy and materials industry in Japan, aims to achieve a carbon-neutral society by 2050 by utilizing renewable energy, biomass, and carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS). In this article, we talked to Hayashi Makoto from the Basic Chemicals Planning Department and Sato Kota from the Basic Chemicals Sales Department, who are promoting the defossilization of plastic raw materials (green chemicals). We will dive into two solutions: biochemicals that use plants, used oil, and such as raw materials for chemicals, and recycled chemicals that come from raw materials derived from the conversion of waste plastic into oil.

Reducing CO₂ Emissions Across the Entire Supply Chain with the GX Series Using Biomass Materials

The ENEOS Group, as a leading company in the energy and materials industries in Japan, is working alongside the government and other companies to achieve a carbon neutral society by 2050 using methods such as renewable energy, biomass, and CCS (CO₂ capture and storage technology). This time, we interviewed Hayashi Kenichiro of the Lubricants Sales Marketing Group, who is working to further reduce CO₂ emissions by promoting a circular economy through the conversion of materials. ENEOS is developing lubricant products using plant-derived base materials that contribute to reducing CO₂ emissions throughout the supply chain, including customer use. We will talk in detail about products with plant-derived base materials that still maintain the conventional performance of fuel efficiency and longer lubricant life.
