Message from the CTO

代表取締役社長 社長執行役員 宮田 知秀

While the social landscape regarding energy is moving in the direction of decarbonization, it is becoming an environment where more emphasis is placed on stable and economical supply of energy, including petroleum. This is largely due to heightened uncertainties such as increased geopolitical risks leading to greater awareness of energy security, and the increasing cost burden of achieving a decarbonized society.

In light of these major changes in the social landscape, we began by establishing multiple scenarios in preparing the FY2025 Carbon Neutrality Plan, which was released in May 2025. We are determined in our mission to continue to supply the energy and materials that our customers and society need in each era and aim to respond no matter what direction the world progresses in.

For the time being, technology to make more effective utilization of fossil resources, the energy source on which humanity must rely, remains important, and carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) technology is a newly important piece in this effort. While we aim to make renewable energy more affordable, the technology to use it without waste needs to be refined. To this end, effective utilization of biomass is important as a means of carbon neutralization that is economically rational for the time being, although there are issues of competition with food and absolute quantity. In a world where transitions are further advanced, hydrogen and other energy sources will play an important role in providing a stable energy supply.

In times of uncertainty, we must prepare the technology that society needs so that we can respond quickly to any situation. This is the mission of the ENEOS Group's technology experts, who support "today's normal" and takes the lead for "tomorrow's normal."
